Randolph college just had a Thanksgiving holiday break. It was short, but I enjoyed not having college food. The food here is terrible so I sometimes avoid going down to the dining hall to eat and try to find other ways to get food. Over this short break I was finally able to watch a movie that I had been dying to see. I am sure by know you can tell that I love movies. I am adding on to my previous blog post just because this movie I saw excited me. I am talking about the movie Australia. It is not just the movie, but the discussion of the movie on Thanksgiving day. I had been watching the movie, but in increments. I have DVR at my house and my family had been nice enough to leave the movie still recorded after they had watched it long before me. So I had just seen the beginning of the film and what I saw was so wonderful that it bothered me that I had not seen it all the way through. So the moment I got off of school for the break, I raced home and watched the movie. I cried afterwards it was so moving. It also made me remember how much I love Nicole Kidman. It also emphasizes why Huge Jackman was People's magazine's choice for Sexiest Man Alive. The song Somewhere Over the Rainbow is in the film and is hauntingly played on a harmonica. I never knew there was more than one way to hear that song and still think it was the greatest song in the world. I had only heard it in The Wizard of Oz. It's a historical piece so I do not know how much of it is actual Australian life. I assume the landscape is the same and I hope so because it made me want to go there so much. On Thanksgiving day I sat down with friends and family and at one point the movie was mentioned. We were raving about how great it was and then somehow the conversation turned to kangaroos. There were not kangaroos in the movie, but it was brought to my attention that kangaroos are very dangerous creatures. I was informed about a man and his dog's encounter with one and how the kangaroo carried off the dog and tried to drown him in a river. I included this because I want to go to Australia, but at the same time I have to be extremely careful when it comes to contact with its wildlife. What I love equally as much as movies is traveling. I have only been to Italy, but I hope to one day travel to all sorts of places in the world.

Last Blog post: Thank goodness!
It is not the assignment that makes me say that I am glad to say goodbye to blogging. I think the assignment, for my communications class, is a great one. It is the idea of blogging regularly that I would not be able to stand. I am writing a paper on my blogging experience so all I am going to say is that I am sticking to my Facebook page.

Movies
I miss it so much. It sounds pathetic I know, but it has been months since I have gone to see a movie at the movie theater. However, it has always been a tradition between my father and I. We are the only ones that jumped at the chance to see a movie in the theater. I think this is where my passion to write my Senior paper on movies comes from. For so long all I have done with my life has gone to the movies. I mean that is an exaggeration of course because I have gone other places too. It just seems that I have spent my life glued to a big wide screen in a theater with popcorn and soda and other movie fans. Right now I am feeling like an addict. I have to get to a movie theater soon or I will go insane. I did go over the summer and saw movies such as The Proposal, Wolverine, and Julie & Julia. Julie & Julia was my favorite. I even bought the soundtrack on my itunes. No wonder Meryl Streep has been nominated so many times for an Academy Award. I do not have a favorite movie, but I love romantic comedies and cannot stand torture movies. I am planning to write my Senior paper on romantic comedies. If only everyone in Lynchburg didn't go to the movies during Thanksgiving, I would go. That's the one thing that I try to avoid as much as possible. I try to avoid going to see a movie, especially if it is a popular movie, within the first few weeks it comes out. If it is not that popular then it doesn't matter. I am speaking of Twilight's New Moon. I want to see why this movie is getting all this attention from teenagers and adults alike. However, it just came out and considering people have a break this week, there is no way I'm getting to that theater. It doesn't help that the theater it is in is the new theater. I have not been to the new theater in our mall and everyone has been telling me how comfortable the seats are. The old one was so uncomfortable that I avoided that theater at all costs. So hopefully soon I will be back to where I feel I belong. It's one thing renting a DVD. That is what I have had to resort to in the past months. It is another to see it on the big screen. It is not the same effect. You are more drawn to the story, the characters, the music, pretty much anything in the movie because you are surrounded by other that feel the exact same way you do. I am not trying to convince you that you should go to the movie theater or that it is the best thing in the world. I have been hearing lately of people going the movie theater and there have constantly been previews of movies on television and it makes me long to go. Don't know what I would go see though even though I have suggested one film I would like to see. Sigh....

Always something exciting
I love how there is always something exciting going on at Randolph College. Here we are in this small town, on this small campus, but we can have events that could put us on the map. In my opinion. I am talking about this game called Zombies vs. Humans. It was brought to my attention two days before that this was taking place on our campus and I had no idea what it meant. Later I found out that this game had been played before in the past years, I just had never bothered to look into you. I am very forgetful so this might have been a factor. Anyways, back to the game. I am not involved in the game, but some girls on my dorm hall are and so I got the scoop from them. Zombies vs. Humans, don't ask me who came up with it and why because I have no idea, is a game played by some college students on this campus. There are two teams the Zombies and the Humans. The Humans try to destroy the Zombies while the Zombies try to take over and turn the Humans into Zombies. The girls who are on my dorm hall are Humans and carry around nerf dart guns, wear green fabric bands on their arms, and try to avoid being turned into Zombies. I have not gotten the chance to see a scene of this game being played out, but I have heard screams and the rapid movements along the hallways above me. I hear that the Zombies wear bands around their heads. I assume they have some sort of weapon but I do not know what it is. All I know is if someone playing the game tries to involve someone who is not playing the game, by shooting at that person or something, that person who is playing the game gets a social violation. So this game is taken seriously. The girls on my hall are careful how they go from hall to hall. The girls on my hall just basically told me how to play the game from their point of view. Just recently a girl from the hall above me came down to ours because another girl on her hall got turned into a Zombie. Apparently if you leave campus and you are a Human you automatically get turned into a Zombie. This game goes on until all the Zombies are destroyed. I am told their is a Zombie leader. I just love hearing about the events that go on because it reminds me of how fortunate I am to be on this campus. I do not care if some of the things like this are weird. It just emphasizes how much I have enjoyed being a student here.
Life
I've always wondered, as maybe others do, about how life works. More specifically the psychology of life. I think this is why I've been taking so many psychology classes. I have been hoping to find answers to all these questions about my life leading up to college. I cannot say that my life was horrible, but I cannot say that is was the greatest thing in the world. This is mainly thanks to my school experiences. Well what I consider in my mind. The main question I wonder is whether people influence your behavior or whether it is from birth. I wonder if things are just in my head or if I am actually experiencing them. In my previous school experiences I have had only one friend. Everyone else I considered mean and inconsiderate. Was it just me? I had only one friend that I could hang out with without feeling that I belonged. Everyone else seem to have their secret worlds that I was not allowed to be a part of. I felt that people around me were extremely competitive and wanted to prove they were better than me at something. Either that or feel they had a power over me just because I was quiet. I am not at all polished at explaining things so this might sound stupid or confusing. What I think I am trying to say is that I have felt threatened all these years and then I come to college and it all changes. I have more than one friend and people want to accept me into their lives. It's wonderful, but I notice that I am still the exact same person that I was throughout my school experiences. So it makes me wonder why I had these experiences.

I am so sorry everyone for not posting. The first week after I created my blog, I came down with something. Actually it seemed that everyone on my college campus had come down with some type of cold or flu. I hope that mine was only a cold, but I had to force myself out of bed each day. I was afraid that I needed a slip from the Health Center at my college so I went to classes on Monday. It was a big mistake because I was coughing all over the place and I had a fever. I did not have any medicine. I was not able to get any until the end of that day. Then I went to bed extremely early that night. I thought that I would immediately feel better the next day, but I just felt as worse as I did the day before. I ended up not going to classes. By Wednesday I was feeling a little bit better, but it was my Senior Seminar day and I did not want to miss that class because I was not allowed to. By Thursday I was feeling better, but not completely. I still have some of my cough from whatever it was that I had. I am pretty confident it was a cold. Anyways so what does this all have to do with the blog? Well I forgot about it in my miserable state and I apologize. It is very strange that I came down with something because I was not at the college the weekend before I started feeling bad. It's a mystery of sickness.
